At Shady Grove Fertility, we wish to assist you in understanding the reasons that could be restricting you from starting a family or adding to the one you already have. Therefore, we recommend that you undertake a complete fertility evaluation.

THE PROCESS OF DIAGNOSING INFERTILITY

When diagnosing infertility it is fundamental to look at the reproductive health of both the male and female partner, as infertility can affect either a man or a woman and sometimes both partners at the same time. At Shady Grove Fertility we strongly encourage both the male and female to be seen and evaluated by a medical doctor/specialist/physician. This may be your own OB/GYN or an independent fertility specialist. It is best if this is carried out prior to beginning treatment.

Diagnosing infertility can be a lengthy and often emotional process. Time is very valuable, which is why we strongly advise a thorough evaluation to ensure that time is not lost through ineffective treatment. This also means your specific cause of infertility is fully addressed with tailored treatment.

DIAGNOSING THE FEMALE PARTNER

If you are a woman seeking to find a cause for your infertility then there are a small handful of tests that can be carried out to establish a diagnosis. The two most common tests that are used when evaluating the female partner’s reproductive system are:

  • Bloodwork – Assists in identifying hormonal imbalances that may impair infertility; conducted through a series of blood tests at various stages of your menstrual cycle. In many cases, an ultrasound is performed at the same time as the blood work.
  • Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) – An x-ray that examines the inside walls of your uterus and Fallopian tubes. To diagnose the male partner, the most common test that is used within the evaluation process :Semen analysis – An evaluation of the sperm’s potential to fertilise the egg.

DIAGNOSING THE MALE PARTNER

To diagnose the male partner, the most common test that is used within the evaluation process:

  • Semen analysis – An evaluation of the sperm’s potential to fertilise the egg.
